The Institute of Microelectronics of Seville once again supported this annual event, whose objectives include the development of critical thinking and civic engagement.
On May 2 and 3, the National Debate Tournament was held at the Faculty of Physics, organized by the University of Seville. Now in its second edition, the event was supported by the Institute of Microelectronics of Seville (IMSE-CNM-CSIC-US) and the public sanitation company Lipasam. Once again, the tournament promoted the development of young talent and encouraged critical reflection on major societal challenges.
The event brought together 19 university teams from across Spain, who engaged in debate around the question: "Is Spain prepared to face extreme climate events?" The tournament followed a format of five qualifying rounds followed by knockout stages, culminating in a grand final between teams Indalo and Dicentis 2. Team Indalo emerged victorious, presenting strong arguments from the opposing standpoint. The winning team was composed of Jesús Gómez Fernández, Dalia Bartel, Víctor Ramos, and Álvaro Pineda, with Víctor Ramos also being recognized as Best Speaker and Best Opening Speaker of the tournament.
Among the notable attendees were Carmen Gallardo, Vice-Rector for Student Affairs; José María Martín Olalla, professor at the Faculty of Physics and science communicator; and Antonio Muñoz Martínez, former Mayor of Seville.
Through this sponsorship, IMSE has contributed to bringing students closer to a scientifically relevant and timely topic—climate change and its consequences.
