UIMP Summer course

From the Digital Science and Innovation Platform (PTI Ciencia Digital) in collaboration with the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) they will carry out one more year a new summer course, this time focused on Data Science. The training, titled "Data in research: challenges and opportunities", will take place from August 26 to 28 in the Península de la Magdalena, Santander and aims to provide a current vision of the impact and challenges that the data era massive contributions are brought to all areas of research.

It will present current problems in data science, analyzing both common and particular aspects of some specific areas and applications. Topics related to massive science data, storage, processing, analysis of large volumes of data, application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to data from sensors, etc. will also be addressed. Within the current challenges of data science, ethical considerations cannot be left aside, for example, regarding biases in data and its analysis. Data can reflect the biases of the people who collect or analyze it, which can lead to erroneous or even harmful conclusions.

In the program it is organized as follows:

  • Monday 26: During the first day, data governance and legislation, as well as the open science environment, are expected to be discussed.
  • Tuesday 27: the second day will focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI), in addition to EOSC infrastructure and security.
  • Wednesday 28: To conclude this training, data science use cases will be addressed.

The course is open to anyone interested in learning about the current challenges of data science. To encourage participation, a scholarship program is offered to cover tuition and accommodation. These grants are aimed at anyone, especially undergraduate, master's and doctoral students, for whom this course may have a practical application.
